Privacy Policy
PinFan (“we,” “us,” or “the app”) is a pinball catalog and collection companion. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used. We designed PinFan to keep most of your activity on your device.
1. Information the app stores on your device
PinFan keeps a local catalog of pinball machines and your personal collection data on your iPhone or iPad, including:
- Machines you mark as owned or wishlisted
- Personal notes you attach to machines
- High scores and related details you enter
- A local copy of the pinball machine database used for browsing offline
This information stays on your device unless you choose to back up your device through Apple’s own backup features (such as iCloud Backup), which are controlled by Apple and your Apple Account settings—not by PinFan.
2. Network activity
PinFan may periodically download updated catalog database files from publicly available GitHub-hosted files so your machine list can stay current. Those requests are used only to fetch catalog data. The app does not require you to create a PinFan account.
When you view machine images or gallery content, the app may load images from third-party hosts (for example, image URLs associated with the catalog source). Those hosts receive standard network request information such as IP address and device user agent, subject to their own policies.
3. Location and Data Collection
PinFan does not sell your personal information. The app does not use advertising trackers, and it does not operate a PinFan social network or public feed of your scores or collection.
We do not request access to your contacts, photos library, microphone, or camera.
Nearby Pinball Map (Optional): If you choose to use the interactive Pinball Map feature to find pinball venues near you, PinFan requests location permission (“While Using the App”) solely to center the map and calculate distances to nearby arcade locations. Your location coordinates are processed live on-device, are never stored on any server, are never linked to personal identity, and are never tracked or shared.
4. Third-party services
- Apple: App distribution, device security, map rendering (MapKit), and optional device backups are provided by Apple under Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
- GitHub: Catalog database updates may be downloaded from GitHub-hosted open catalog files.
- Pinball Map API: Public pinball venue locations and machine lineups are retrieved via the community-maintained Pinball Map API when you use the nearby venue finder.
- Catalog / image sources: Machine metadata and artwork originate from public pinball databases (such as IPDB, Pinside, OPDB). PinFan is an independent fan companion and is not affiliated with those sources unless stated otherwise.
5. Children
PinFan is intended as a general-audience catalog and collection tool. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app in a way that concerns you, contact us and we will help address it.
6. Data retention and deletion
Because collection data lives on your device, you can remove it by deleting the data in-app where available, or by deleting the PinFan app from your device. Uninstalling the app removes the app’s local data stored with it on that device.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of PinFan after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
